Shamus Dotson doesn’t believe a knife has to look or behave like every knife that came before it.
His Signature collection takes inspiration from Viking mythology, drawing on the stories of the Aesir gods, the Valkyries, and Odin’s ravens for its names, materials, and forms.
The first three knives center on Odin, Vili, and Ve, the brothers at the heart of the collection. Each features a black handle with two red liners on either side: black representing the void from which all things were created, and the red representing the life force that sparks creation.
The supporting knives take their names from the spirits and creatures associated with that mythology. The Valkyrie pairs a thick blue liner with a bead-blasted blade inspired by the armor of the shield maidens. Huginn and Muninn, Odin’s ravens, take a darker approach, with black handles that reference the birds’ deep-colored feathers.
For Shamus, the mythology is more than decoration. It’s a starting point; a way to ask questions, push ideas further, and see what happens when you stop making the expected knife. Join Shamus in bold experimentation through his Signature collection, Forged in Myth.
Odin
Known as the All-Father, Odin sits at the center of the collection. His knife is designed to do the same in the kitchen. It’s a capable all-purpose blade with balanced weight and the control to move easily between breaking down proteins and fine vegetable work. With enough versatility to become the knife you reach for most, Odin is meant to become an extension of the hand over time.
Vili
Vili embodies movement and intent. His long, fluid blade is designed to glide through meat with minimal resistance, making clean cuts that preserve texture, flavor, and presentation. Vili’s precision ensures every cut is as deliberate as the moment itself.
Vé
Vé is the god associated with giving humanity its senses and form. His name translates to “sacred enclosure,” inspiring a knife built around one of the most fundamental ways we care for ourselves: preparing food. With its broad profile, Vé makes chopping produce feel deliberate and satisfying.
Valkyrie
The Valkyries were divine shield maidens who moved through the sky, choosing which fallen warriors would be taken to Valhalla. This Valkyrie moves just as decisively. Lightweight and agile, it shifts easily between fish, meat, and vegetables, rewarding confident movement and bridges the gap between precision and versatility.
Huginn
Huginn is Odin’s raven of thought, and this knife is built for focused work. A contrasting black-and-white ebony pattern reflects the fluidity of mind, while the compact blade makes quick work of peeling, trimming, and other small tasks. Nimble and razor-sharp, Huginn is the kind of companion that makes a larger knife work harder.
Muninn
Muninn, Odin’s raven of memory, becomes an outdoor knife built for utility and the experiences that stay with you. Its straight edge and strong tip make it reliable for camp prep and everyday tasks, while the dyed black bone handle reflects what remains when everything else fades away. From trail to table, the Muninn is made for the moments worth remembering.
